The Basic SPYDERCRANE Operator’s Course (BSOC), which is a training and qualification Certification Training program.BSOC is a comprehensive training program that qualifies SPYDERCRANE Operators by testing their ability to accomplish over 100 discrete learning objectives and ending with a skills performance assessment that the student must pass to be identified as a Qualified SPYDERCRANE Operator.
While not a federal requirement for crane operators, the BSOC is used in New York City as an alternative to the Hoisting Machine Operator’s License (a license that takes an average of three years to earn). Other municipalities throughout the country are drafting similar regulations to allow the BSOC to be used in lieu of the more conventional crane operator’s license. More importantly, when a student completes the BSOC, you can be assured that his, or her, competence and ability to safely operate the SPYDERCRANE has been properly tested and vetted. In the end, of course, it is ultimately YOUR responsibility to ensure that your people are competent to operate the SPYDERCRANE; BSOC is the practical means of assessing and measuring that competence.
