Crystalline Silica Competent Person Training Eugene OR
Crystalline Silica Competent Person Training. We provide the OSHA and MSHA training required to keep your company compliant with the new rule. We include how to build an OSHA-compliant silica program and more. The Silica rules are in effect and being enforced by OSHA and MSHA. All employees working around Silica need to be trained on the hazards of Crystalline Silica. Remember the twin towers? Those people are feeling the effects now. It can take up to 20 years for them to show up. There is NO Cure. Protect yourself.
Silica dust is a microscopic particle created by drilling, crushing, cutting, or grinding rocks.
This course covers OSHA's updated silica standard, which increases worker protection through several exposure assessments and control measures.
If you are potentially exposed to respirable crystalline silica dust at your worksite, OSHA requires you to complete this course.
Approximately two million construction workers are exposed to respirable crystalline silica in over 600,000 workplaces annually. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration, or OSHA, estimates that more than 840,000 workers are exposed to silica levels exceeding permissible exposure limits (PELs).
It's been linked to several medical conditions when inhaled, some of which are fatal.
Exposure to respirable crystalline silica can cause silicosis, lung cancer, other respiratory diseases, and kidney disease.
Exposure to silica can occur during everyday construction tasks, such as using masonry saws, grinders, drills, jackhammers, handheld powered chipping tools, operating vehicle-mounted drilling rigs, milling, operating crushing machines, and utilizing heavy equipment for demolition or specific other tasks.
NOTE - OSHA's regulations define construction work as "construction, alteration, and repair, including painting and decorating."
